When you are dating as you currently know it, you're either trying to get set up on blind dates via your friends, or hit on anything that breathes at the local pub. While both of these dating strategies can lead to great stories the next day, they are pretty much fruitless for people looking beyond tomorrow. If you are interested in forging a lasting relationship, then by God, you are gonna have to get serious. One of the best new ways in which you can meet a lot of people really quickly and decide if you want to take it further - with no pressure and no awkwardness getting in the way -- is a lil' thing called speed dating.

What is speed dating, anyway?

People think it is dating while on drugs, but speed dating is usually substance-free. People have also asked us if speed dating is some sort of contest by which you try to bag the other person as quickly as possible, in competition with other guys who are doing the same on their first dates. While humorous this is not the concept either. All this method of dating entails is you getting together with a number of other singles in a room, "dating" one another for a few minutes, and moving on to someone else.

When you do this, it's kind of like online dating in that you don't have to go too fast. If you like what you see in the person and would like to set up a real date for some other time, you can pursue that. Or you can go your separate ways.
