Trying to find your soul mate is tricky. If you try too hard, you won't get anywhere. When it comes to love and finding your soul mate, stop trying so hard. Just relax and take up activities you enjoy. You'll find true love when you least expect it.

Kelly's Search for a Soul Mate

This is the story of Kelly and her search for her soul mate. When Kelly was in her early 20s, she won a radio contest to be a "Roadie-for-a-Day" for a big country music band that was coming to her town. Of course she was excited, and when the day came, she ended up becoming good friends with the band. She even dated one of the guys in particular for about a year, but she came out of it, predictably, broken-hearted.

Since that time, Kelly has had a hard time giving any other guy a chance. When she does, she gets heartbroken again. For a while, she only wanted to date celebrities. She tried to date hockey players and baseball players, but nothing ever worked out, as you might imagine. (Point of clarification: Kelly was not a groupie and didn't "sleep around" with anyone, no matter who he was.) And if a guy wasn't a celebrity, he had to look like a supermodel. Other guys--guys who were funny, smart, well-educated, and handsome (just not super-model hot) did not interest her. And when she goes out with groups of friends, she has a sad look about her. At this point, she has not found her soul mate. No happy ending here. What's holding her back? She doesn't give anyone a chance. She's 35 years old and all but given up on her dream of someday finding her soul mate, getting married and having children.

Kelly could increase her chances of finding her soul mate by focusing her energy and attention on things that interest her. She could join a volleyball club or an intramural softball team. She could even take some classes on things that interest her. True, those things don't guarantee that she'll find true love, but at least she'll be out there meeting people in a constructive way, and having a good time doing it. Hopefully, one day she'll succeed at finding true love, and when she does, they'll be soul mates forever. But right now, that remains to be seen.
