It is impossible for a lot of us to even grasp how this could have been the case. It seems that only a few generations ago the only American singles were children and widows. Everyone in between was married. But the face of American singles have changed dramatically over the last few decades and American singles are one of the fastest growing demographics in this country. People are beginning to realize that being alone does not equal loneliness and that getting married early is not really the most logical step in life. American singles are also giving more thought to the actual cost and struggle of raising a family. Once upon a time the first few children that young families had struggled along with there parents, for they did not get as much out of life either. Generally money would be tight in the beginning and only the later kids might reap the benefits of more stability as their parents aged. Now many American singles are taking this into account. It is much better, many believe, to get the stability in place before you start having to be responsible for other people. So more people are investing solely in themselves and for a longer period of time and they are liking it. Being single is not taboo Being single is a cause for celebration, not something to bemoan. Forget Grandma's prodding and get on with your own life. There are many doors that will close to you once you are tied down. Don't get us wrong, we believe in marriage and know its benefits, it should just not be hurried. If you are in your 30s and 40s and still in the singles demographic, think of all the things you've seen, people you've met, and experiences that you've had that you could not have had a chance to if you would have been married earlier in life. Options for all walks of life Even though people are staying single for longer periods of time does not mean that they do not want to be out there dating. And there are more ways than ever to find a suitable date for every American single. Many of us would prefer to date only within our religion, if that is the case there are now many Christian singles sites. And, of course it does not end there- there is a site for every group and subgroup in the States. One of the biggest and most successful sites on the Internet caters only to Jewish singles! There are even place where the religious group is narrowed down even further, such as the sites that are only for Baptists, or those for Lutherans, and many for Catholic singles.
